A Box Finish

This is a finish that I’ve actually done almost 2 month ago. I had to wait to reveal it cause it was a birthday gift. This was also the reason I asked for help on a previous post. Thanks for all the great tips on attaching the cording. At the end I just did what Nina suggested and twist the ends to make it look right. There is still room for improvement, but it’s actually not too bad.

The design was from this blog Carole Dieffenbacher, if you haven’t already, you should go check out her wonderful designs of trees and birds!! This is also the first time I used silk threads from the Thread Gatherer. I think the color variation is so gorgeous~

I even made a matching needle minder with the same fabric and thread. Since the gift receiver is a bird lover, I stitched a little birdie on it~

I lined the box with some pink fabric, and the size of the box is perfect for storing stitching goods~ There’s actually a little secret behind the cover lining… There’s actually a sheet of magnet behind it,  because I originally want it to be able to stick needles on it. It worked when I tested before hand, but for some reason it failed after I glued the lining on… So sad… I’ll need to use a stronger magnet next time.

All in all it was quite a success!!! This is so much fin to make, I will need to stock up on wood boxes on my next trips to the craft store~~

To all of you who are in the States, Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Hodgepodge

I’ve been working on a mix of different projects lately. Do you remember this quilt from last winter (“the never ending quilt” as my husband call it…)? Well, due to the drop of temperature, it has made its appearance again. I love sitting on the couch with this quilt covering my legs while I work on it, not yet finished but it has already be keeping me warm~ I actually don’t mind the never ending quilting, to me, it kind of relaxing. But still, lets hope it will come to an end before this winter ends.

Well, this is not Déjà vu!! I made another Giraffe Growth Chart over the weekend. This one will be a Christmas gift. The only thing that’s different from the previous one was the ribbon on the border. I kind of like this orange!!

I’ve also been working on the three little snowmen~ Just I thought I’m close to finishing it, obstacles hit again!!!! I’m having a hard time stitching the pine needles. Can’t even remember how many times I took it apart. I spent two days just on this little part!!! Still not 100% satisfied with it, but I think I’ll move on for now.

I can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week. Are you all prepared yet? I’m not!!

Under the Tree

One more done, only one more to go!! These dolls remind me of the ones I got when I was a kid. They’re probably laying in a box somewhere in storage back home right now….

It’s that time of the year again!! The temperature dropped so much we finally set up a fire. I love sitting by the fireplace watching TV and stitch. It is a perfect spot to be on a cold and rainy day, don’t you say?!

Three Little Snowmen…

As we enter November, the weather has been quite unpredictable. One day it is so hot it’s like back to summer, and the other it’s so cold I wonder winter has arrived too early. It’s those cool days that makes me crave for wooly things, and that’s how I started on these three little snowmen~

They are not complete yet, but I can already tell that they are so full of characters!!! Hope they will be in their full glory soon!!!
