Living in an apartment, there’s not a lot of space to stretch out. So while DH is in Maine right now eating lobster buffet (so envy!!), I thought to myself, what a great opportunity to start a new quilt?! I can take over the dinning table and living room and no one would complain about it!!!! So that’s what I did. I took out the Urban Chiks 1974 Charm Packs I bought a few weeks back and started cutting.
One hundred and eighty blocks and a hand of sore fingers later, I ended up with 5 piles of nicely cut tumbler shapes and a basket full of scraps~~ I love these prints sooooo much that I’m going to save the scrapes for now and think of a way to use them later…
When I bought these charm packs, I already knew I wanted to try this recipe from Moda Bakeshop. Instead of four packs, I used five, and I’m thinking of adding a border around it to expand the final size. I can’t remember how many times I had arranged and rearranged these blocks, but after squatting on the floor for so long, my thigh is still sore even now. I’ve moved onto sewing. Hopefully I can finish piecing them together before DH comes home, and all the pieces will match up nicely…. Fingers crossed.
I was very lucky to win this gorgeous project bag from Susan a few weeks ago!!! It is HUGE and a perfect fit for a bigger project!!!! I place the needle minder on it to give you a sense of the size~~ I love it!! Thank you so much, Susan!!!!
Well, I’m going back to my sewing now. Talk to you all later~~~
It's looking good Theresa can't wait to see it all stitched up ; ))

Theresa.. that looks so fabulous! 180 blocks? Makes me tired just imagining doing that. And they are so perfectly cut and arranged. That is going to be a beautiful quilt. Do you have to change the blade in the cutter after doing so many blocks?
ReplyDeleteI live in a small space too, so I can appreciate the problems it causes for crafters!
I can see why your fingers hurt! Looks like you are going to have a gorgeous quilt! Enjoy your open space....
ReplyDeleteFantastic quilt pattern. What a lot of work. Where's your husband in Maine? I live in Northern Maine, but I used to live in Portland too.
ReplyDeleteThis looks great Theresa! Have you picked out a backing fabric??
ReplyDeleteYour new quilt is nice! I don't look forward to cutting out fabric at all - it's my least favorite step in the quilting process. What do you have in mind for your scraps? Maybe string blocks?
ReplyDeleteI love the fabric. I can't wait to see your quilt all put together.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, Theresa, I recall when you just started quilting. Was that only last year? and now you are going crazy with beautiful quilts - good for you!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine while your DH is away, your apartment will be a fabric den! Have fun!
It looks very exciting! I like your colorful works.
ReplyDeleteWell, Theresa, your new project is so beautiful. And you're right to enjoy all the space while DH is away !

ReplyDeleteThat is a lot of work you accomplished. Am I reading this right? Did you do all of that cutting in one day?!? Very nice!
ReplyDeleteTheresa, that is SO pretty! I see now why you went crazy over that fabric line. I can't wait to see it all put together and quilted!
