July….Seriously?!

Can you believe it’s July already?! This year seems to fly by so fast!!!! I can’t believe its half gone already and before you know it, we’re going to be preparing for Christmas again… Better enjoy the summer while we can!!!

I did made a small finish this week. After seeing so many beautifully made heart ornaments out there, I really want to try making one myself, so this is kind of an experiment for me.

Pattern: “Coeur printemps
Thread: DMC cotton floss
Fabric: 28ct Irish linen in tea
Finished Size: 5.5” x 5.5”
Finishing Date: 06-28-2010

I have to say it was kind of tricky!! I had to hand sew the edges first and when I try to turn it right side out, the top part kept bundling up on me. After several attempts I finally figured out that the trick was to snip the edges before turning it over. It still looks a bit lopsided, though…. So may I ask all you crafty minds out there what’s the secret of making a perfect heart?

I know it’s not spring anymore but I love those little bunnies~~ Sometimes I can see a bunch of them having dinner on the lawn during my evening walks. I also like the bright greens and pinks. It’s very……spring!!! I was lucky to find a perfect pink fabric for the backing. I can’t remember where I found this freebie design. If anyone knows please let me know so I can include the link.

Edit 07-04-2010: I’ve added the link for this freebie. Just go to this link and click on “GRILLES GRATUITES” on the left sidebar then it will show a whole list of freebies from Anne. This pattern is called “Coeur printemps”. Thank you Brigitte for finding the link~

Lastly, for those who are in the United States, happy 4th of July~~~

  1. I think your heart looks lovely. It is best to trim the seams to about 1/4" (grading helps to - trim one side more than the other), put a little clip in the curves almost all the way round spaced about 1/4" apart and trim as close as you dare at the points!

  4. I think you've finishing your heart beautifully! I did a Stacy Nash heart which was my first attempt at one and it turned out OK but I think I need some more practice with them. So I won't pass on any tips since I'm still learning myself. Good luck with more of them in the future.

  10. Your heart is so pretty and it's very well finished, I think. I stitched the same freebie a couple of years ago and made it into a needle case. And this is the designer's site:

  14. 好可愛喔 ~~ ^_^
    我也覺得好像在不知不覺中就過了半年了.
    每次想繡些和節日有關的東西,
    可是還沒繡好這個節日就已經過去了,
    下一個節日又來了...

  16. I've been a little timid about trying a heart finish, but I think yours turned out very nice. And I share your love of stitched bunnies. Don't know what it is about those little animals, but they pop up in quite a lot of the designs I buy.
