Mary Update and a Question….

It has been another month and I finished the bottom portion of Mary Wigham~ This time still not without mistakes of course, but I’ll worry about that later….

Here is a look at the whole thing as this moment. Keep this up and I think I would be able to finish it by the end of the year!!!

I actually have a question for you. Does anyone know how to finish cording on a wood box? As you can see, there is a little gap between the stitched piece and the box edge and I plan on covering it with a piece of cording. But how do you hide the ends? Also, how do you stop the cording ends from fraying? Do you burn it? Stitch it?  If anyone could give me some tips, it would be great help~~

Sneak Peak~

I have finished making the gift for my Blogoversary giveaway this week~~ Although I can’t tell you what it is yet, this is what was left in my trash bin~ See all the threads I ripped out? I ran into trouble with the binding again!!!! Can’t remember how many times I had ripped it out and redid it, but I finally got a result that I can live with. I hope you like fall colors!!!! If you would like to enter for the giveaway, you can still leave a comment on my earlier post, and I will draw a name on 9/26 evening.

I went to JoAnn’s the other day, on the intention of picking up some threads, but ended up bring home some fabrics with me as well. I’m on the look out of gathering cute baby girl fabrics, cause I’m going to be an aunt!!!!! Mind you I have no idea what I will be doing with these fabrics yet, but hey, that is not important, right?  ;-)

Fall has definitely arrived, I can feel it in the air~ How about you?

Friendship Tote

A dear friend of mine will be moving away. Although we had just known each other for a couple of years, JC has been a constant in our life here in San Diego. Another crafty friend of mine and I decided to team up and make something for JC, and we thought a big tote bag would be perfect for her scarfs and hats and mittens that she will need when going out in the Chicago winter, along with all the other stuff a mom needs with her all times!!!

IMG_6671IMG_6681

Pattern: Revised from “Simple Tote Bag
Size: 15” x 16”
Completion Date: 09-06-2011

The initials are stitched by my crafty friend, and I put the bag together. I mostly followed the instructions from this simple tote bag, but added a front pocket. I choose a pink lining fabric, which I thought works really well with the front fabric~~

Although I don’t want JC to leave, I know this is for the best, and I wish her all the best in Chicago. I hope when she sees this bag, she will remember us, and all the good days we had here in San Diego~

Speaking of gifts, if you would like to participate in my blogoversary giveaway, please remember to leave a comment in my previous post to enter. Enjoy your weekend~~

Off to the Quilt Show We went~

A friend and I went to the 2011 San Diego Quilt Show this past Saturday. It was the first time for my friend, and we were both so excited!! The modern pieces were just amazing!!!! All the cutting and piecing and stitching, sooooo much work put into each of them!!!!! (Click photos for a better look~)

2011-09-10 SD Quilt Show

This Celtic Knots pattern were originally meant to be 14” squares each, but the maker decided to do them in 1/3 of the original size, which was pretty amazing!!!!

2011-09-11

I also love reading the stories behind every quilt. The maker of this “Oh My Gosh” quilt actually did the quilt from a picture, and actually found the pattern after she was done making it!!! I love the colors and all the tiny pieces of this quilt!!!!

2011-09-12

Although machine quilting is quite popular now a days, there are still many amazingly hand quilted one in the show. I do love the hand made quality of these pieces, which is something a machine couldn’t create~

2011-09-10 SD Quilt Show1

Like this quilt which was hand quilted, hand embroidery from top to bottom!!!! My picture does not to it justice at all!!!! It was stunning in person. It took the maker 7 years to finish this quilt!!!!

2011-09-10 SD Quilt Show2

This one was my favorite quilt~~ I couldn’t help it, it was a garden theme!!! I love how the flowers stands out. If I remembered correctly, this one was the President’s Choice~

2011-09-10 SD Quilt Show4

The guest artist this year was Eleanor Burns of Quilt in a Day. I’ve been to her shop several times but this was the first time that I saw her in person. She has so much spunk!!!! Listening to her speak was so much fun~~~~

IMG_6736

And of course we had to hit the vendors!!!! We totally lost ourselves there, especially the wool applique booths, visiting and revisiting each of them, debating what to get. After much deliberation, I managed to control myself and walked away with only a small hull. My friend, not so much. She did quite a damage to her budget…. We had so much fun, though!!!! Quilt shows are always more exciting with friends~~

IMG_6766

I still haven’t decided what to make for my 3 year blogoversary yet, but I think I will throw in some of the finds I got at the quilt show. So if anyone is interested in my mystery blogoversary giveaway, please leave a comment on this post only and I will make a draw on 9/26, which should give me some time to make a special gift~ Thank you for all of you who followed me through these years. Your encouragement is what keeps me going!!! Please do come back and visit again~~

My, what a busy week I had!!! I’m so glad it’s a long weekend so I can have some time to myself. Therefore, I’m not going anywhere this weekend!!! Just hanging around home~~ I did finish another ornament stitching, though~~ This time is Peppermint Twist!!
