A Little Bag for a Little Boy

My friend’s son just turned three. He is such a darling, I wanted to make something special for him. Since he has just started school, I thought a bag would be perfect!! But I’m not the brightest sewer, you see, so finding something that’s nice and not too complicated was a bit of a challenge. I searched and searched, and finally came across  Rachel Measham-Pywell’s Click to Carry Bag, which I thought would be perfect for him~~ So after a few times of trial and error, I finally put together this final product!!

I redid the curve binding but it is still not perfect. At least it is not too awful… Curves are sooooo tricky!!!!

What I loved about this bag is it not only has an adjustable strap so it can be used as a messenger style bag, it also has a satchel clip that could separate the  strap.  This way it can be attached to the back of a head rest in the car or shopping carts to keep it in children’s reach. What a thoughtful design!!

Making bags are so much fun~~ I certainly learned a lot from this process.

This bag is not flawless, but I love it~~ And I hope my friend would love it, too~~

Doves

Thank you my friends for all your helpful suggestions on the curve binding. I think my biggest problem was not cut my binding fabric on the bias, and my inability to sew straight…. I’m close to finishing this project and it is looking very cute~~ Can’t wait to share it with all of you when it is done~~

Now an update on the Collared Doves that nested on my balcony. This past Monday I discovered that the egg has hatched and there was a baby bird in the nest!!! From the looks of it, it was like more then a week old.

Then yesterday morning I found the nest empty. Apparently the baby was trying to fly and it flew out of the nest. It was very interesting to hear the baby calling to its parents and the mother bird cooing back.

Later that afternoon I couldn’t find the baby anymore. It must have flew out the balcony. I even went out to see if I can still find it but it was no where to be seen. I can hear the mother and father bird cooing all afternoon trying to find there baby. I was heartbroken….

I could only hope that the baby flew to somewhere safe, and maybe, just maybe, they would find each other again.

Work in Progress….

I have been working on a special project lately. Since it is a gift, I can’t say too much about it just yet.

IMG_2367

What I can tell you is binding a curved edge is sooooo tricky!!!! I think I had sewed and taken it apart for like eight or nine times before I came up with something that was acceptable…. As you can see in the photo, it was still not perfect. Is there a trick to make pretty curved binding??

Despite that binding part, I’m enjoying the process of putting this gift together. It is a learning curve, and I hope the end product would turned out nice. Fingers crossed.
