Soft and Romantic~

I dug into my to-be-finished pile and pulled out LHN’s The Angels Sang piece to work on last Friday. I’ve always known that I want to finished this piece into a wall hanging, and this is the final product~ Please excuse the knitting needle, that’s the closest thing to a dowel that I can find around the house right now. I still need to find a proper dowel for it to hanging on.

Pattern: Little House Needleworks “The Angels Sang”
Thread: Crescent Colors & DMC cotton floss
Fabric: 40ct Lakeside Linen in Bittersweet
Finished Size: 13.25” x 16.5”
Completion Date: 01-16-2010
Finishing Date: 05-21-2010

This actually came out a little bit different then my original plan. At first, I only planned to do the white frame, but felt it looked kind of plain, so I added the green around the edge.

Then I felt it looked flat, so I went digging in my buttons collection and was super happy to find these pink buttons. I’m really glad how everything just worked out perfectly~

I think it looks soft and romantic. What do you think?

New Discoveries~

It’s time for an update on my Mary Wigham Sampler again!! I’ve finally moved into the second page of this sampler.  I’m actually quite surprised at how much I have done on this page already since I did not think I put in a lot of time on this.

I discovered I really like the black motif, the black on white just jumps off the page!! It’s almost like black lace~ I should try making something just with black next time!!

DH and I had been embracing the spring weather and visited a fairy land called Summers Past Farm last week. It’s a small farm that kindly offers their beautiful property for people to enjoy for free, with a coffee stand and handmade soap shop within.

We enjoyed a great afternoon sitting in the courtyard drinking coffee and tea, enjoying what nature brings. This is our first time here, and actually stumbled across this place by accident. But what a great discovery it was!!

And of course we had to bring some wonderful stuff home with us!!!

Sewing…

I have been sewing this week. Since I do not have a permanent place to set up my sewing machine, I usually will try to gather all kinds of sewing projects together once I got it out. So I have been sewing, mending things, altering pains, working on small projects. I’ve even introduced one of my friends to the world of sewing machine, and she actually went out and got one the next day, which I find very amusing~ I must have been a very good teacher!! ;-)

One little thing I was working on was to recreate a gear lever cover for my car. Don’t laugh, I have all kinds of accessories in my car, and this is one of them. I’ve bought it like five or six years ago, and it is pretty beat up. So I’ve turned this:

Into this:

When I showed it to my DH, his comment was: you have way too much time on your hands!!! LOL!!! DH took the car today so I’ll post  a photo of it in my car later. (Photo added: 05-11)

I also have Charlie Brown on my rear view mirror and snoopy on my seatbelt cover~ I know, I’m obsessed!!

The weather has been beautiful here the past couple weeks and I’ve been taking walks on the trail near my home. With the abundant  rain this year, the wildflowers are blooming like crazy!!! Mountains and fields in southern California were usually brown and dry, so it is really nice to see all this greenery for a change. Here are some scenery from the trail I would like to share with you~

Winter Fobs

Although it is spring right now, winter temperature is still lingering around here. So I guess it’s ok for me to do some winter finishes~ :-)

These winter stitches has been sitting in my to be finished pile for more then a year. I finally dug them out and finished them this past week.

Pattern: Heart in Hand “Winter Fobs”
Thread: DMC cotton floss & Sampler floss
Fabric: 32ct Belgium linen
Finishing Date: 04-30-2010

First up is this little pincushion. It is 2.75” x 3.25”. I like the simplicity of the design very much!! I screwed up a little bit on the closing, though… Must need more practice….

Second up is a pinkeep, it’s 2.875” x 3.25”. It was originally designed to be a fob, but I changed it into a pinkeep instead. I fell in love when I first saw this whimsical snowman!!! I actually had a hard time finishing this one up, because I didn’t know how to hide the ends of the cording. After several attempt, this is what I made peace with.

Finally, it’s a needle roll!! This is my first needle roll finish, and I have to say it is quite fun~ I love all the specialty stitches on this one!! It really made the whole thing special.

So this time it’s all about the pins. What should I grab out next to be finished up?
